Chinese grassroots politics 中国社会政经方略
Edition 2021 – Frans Vandenbosch
This book is cutting through the picture, painted by the Western mainstream media.. It is breaking the common assumptions; it invites the reader to take stock of a very different image of China. It will show what’s really going on in China. How ordinary Chinese people engage in politics. How people’s issues and concerns find their way through the system in new legislation. And how local neighbourhood committees contribute to a more harmonious society in China. It will show the unwavering, selfless commitment of thousands of Chinese people and politicians at grassroots level in local work- and in discussion groups. This book will also show how, in the past two decades, philanthropy with Chinese Characteristics has changed the world of charity in China. Some people will feel offended in reading this book. Although my writing style might be abrasive, it is not my intention to upset my readers. My goal for both China and the world is a harmonious society based on correct information. Before digging into the details of the grassroots movements in China, a basic understanding of the Chinese political system is required. We invite and challenge the – even occasional or chance – reader to broaden their understanding of China as a whole and its cultural and historical roots.
Editorial Reviews
“I appreciate your vision and passion. Grassroots politics is indeed important for understanding China. And nicely designed and presented!”
Robert Lawrence Kuhn
“I learned a lot of interesting details about the inner workings of the CPC’s governance. ‘Statecraft’ shows how China’s dynamic, participatory democracy directly benefits the people at the street level.”
Jeff J. Brown, Author of The China Trilogy
“I think your book is such a significant advance about grassroots politics in China that you should publish it as early as you can. In my judgement you have got the balance right. Best of luck with your book.”
George Tait Edwards
“Forget everything you have learned about China until you have read this book””To my knowledge, no other book reports in any detail about China at grassroots level. This book provides an altogether different picture of the heart of China, how ordinary people engage in politics.”
Richard Winnington
“Scientific accuracy, but written with passion and knowledge. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this as it is such an interesting topic”.
Claire Cronshaw
“This book depicts strong views, but is definitely not abrasive. Westerners who disagree will see this as biased, but it works both ways. They are biased too. It is certainly of great interest, especially to foreigners living in China and in other countries. I like the compact size of the chapters – not too long and involved.”
